A Transfer Smart Scam in Sox Land

Each week, there are new reports out there about fraudulent timeshare scams. Timeshare scams come in many different shapes and forms. The latest transfer smart scam comes from Boston, Massachusetts. According to the Worcester Telegram, a company posing to be a legitimate timeshare transfer company really was in the game of deceit.

The Boston Better Business Bureau is investigating a company by the name of Property Consultant Services. Reports indicate that the "listings" company was calling timeshare owners to inform them of a recent lead they acquired. The company was able to secure buyers for the owners' timeshares at a significant profit. However, there was a catch.

The catch being that the owners had to pay finder's fees that averaged a thousand dollars. For the owners, this was a bargain. What's a thousand dollars for a lifetime of savings? However, once the owners paid the money, the company was never heard from again. Emails would not be returned and visits made to the office of Property Consultant Services would show that the company never existed. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident.

The Boston Better Business Bureau reports that timeshare scams have gone up forty percent within the last year. Owners are getting more desperate, and scam artists are getting cleverer. This particular incident involved professional conduct of the representatives and the promise of an escrow company holding the money until the transfer was complete.

However, no matter the scam, it ends the same way. If you want to avoid a transfer scam, there are ways. The easiest way to do so is through working with a reputable company like Transfer Smart. Learn more today.
